Windows Home Server 2011 - download? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently purchased a copy of Windows Home Server 2011 64-bit from newegg, but have since opted to do without an optical drive in my new build. Is there somewhere (on the Microsoft site or elsewhere) where I can download a copy and use the product key from the purchased copy to activate?

  • No, that's not possible. The only place to download WHS is if you have a Technet or MSDN subscription and then it is not for "production" purposes. The best way would be to create a bootable USB stick (do a search for details of how to do this) or temporarily use a DVD drive connected to the server.

  • If you've already bought a copy, why would you need to download another? Use your tools of choice to put the data from the disk on a bootable flash drive and install from that.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
