Small letters change to capital letters RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Test page:  http://www.user.uni-hannover.de/nhtcapri/greek-alphabet.html

Translate with  http://www.bing.com/translator  from English to French or to Spanish.

Some Greek words are changed to capital letters without reason:

    ΑΞΙΑ   ΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΑ   ΟΝΟΜΑ
           ΟΡΘΙΑ  ΠΛΑΓΙΑ

I regard this as a strange bug.

  • Hi Andreas,

Thanks for the report below.  So you’re translating Greek texts from English -> French/Spanish, right?

If you set the source language to Greek manually, you can see the real translations, right?

It’s an artifact of the system trying to translate Greek texts using the English -> French/Spanish/etc. system.

Hope that this is helpful.  Thanks for the report, though.  Takako (Microsoft Translator team)

    It says:

No. I translate English text to French or to Spanish.
It just happens that the English page contains some Greek words.

Sorry, not at all. You completely missed my point.
    Text that is not translated should stay as it is;
it should not be transformed to capital letters.

And Greek is just an example; it happens with any script.
    Take another example:
    http://www.user.uni-hannover.de/nhtcapri/armenian-alphabet.html

Translate from English to French or to Spanish.
Then some Armenian, Russian, Greek words are changed to capital letters.
    This should not happen.
