Moving Multiple Files Located on an External Hard Drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • ....So I am running windows 10 on a laptop.  have over 600,000 media files on an external hard drive located in multiple folders. i wish to keep the files on the external hard drive, but i want to put them all in a single folder, so that i can run a duplicate finder to sort out the duplicates. I have been using windows explorer to move them all bit by bit, but its going to take the rest of my life, and then my ghost will have to take over after. so what i want to ask is if i can avoid the windows user interface and use windows powershell instead to move all the files over.

what is the coding i need  if it is possible? can i move all the files at once without moving their containing folders/ is this method going to be any faster or more efficient?

also, my research has shown that there is apparently supposed to be a duplicate finder imbedded into windows file explorer but it is either not on mine or i just cant find it despite my looking everywhere i can think of. any suggestions or explanations?

    thanks
