Installing Office on an second internal HD with the new OS

Question
-
Hello Everyone
Not sure this is the right place for this question - apologies if it isn't.
I am running Vista Ultimate (32bits) and Office 2007 Professional. I am planning to install Windows 7 (64 bits). To manage the possible compatibility issues, this new install (not an upgrade) will be done on a second (internal) HD. I'll be switching HD's until all is transferred. Most likely I'll be running the 2 in parallel for some time.
My question: Am I allowed to install Office on this 2nd HD? Is this 2nd install considered "same PC" or "other PC"?
Many Thanks!
Jean-Paul

Hello Jean-Paul A,
As far as I can tell from the mgadiag report, your Office is a retail license.
Here is the paragraph of the Software Licensing Terms that applies:
2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license, you must assign that license to one device. That device is the “licensed device.” A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.
a. Licensed Device. You may install and use one copy of the software on the licensed device.
b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device.
c. Separation of Components. The components of the software are licensed as a single unit. You may not separate the components and install them on different devices.I cannot speak to the legalities of what you want to do. I am pretty sure from a practical perspective that the second installation going onto the additional hard disk drive and operating under a different OS will be seen by the product activation system as the second allowed installation. I don't think the product activation system has the ability to determine whether the second allowed installation is actually on the specified portable computer, so there's ample wiggle room to work with.

Hello Jean-Paul A,
The rule of thumb is, if the license is OEM, no; if the license is full retail, yes.
If you run the report below it will tell us what type of Office license you have and we can advise from there:
In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Run" several times to download and start the Utility. When asked, click the "Continue" button. When the utility completes its run, click the "Copy" button, then come back here and paste the report into your post.
