W7 Ultimate fails validation check - 'in use by another PC or blocked by Microsoft' RRS feed

  • Question

  • Notice in microsoft Security Essentials

    Computer status - Potentially unprotected

    Home tab

"Windows did not pass genuine validation... run a validation check"

Press the 'Resoslve now' button, a new webpage opens headed 'Enter a genuine windows product key' 'The product key used to activate Windows on your PC is already in use on another PC or has been blocked by Microsoft.'

Product was bought from eBay. I have a DVD and product key and rang Microsoft to check the authenticity before installing (whether the key was temporary or would expire), they said it was OK and I would receive updates for the life of the OS - has been in use for 7 months.

Do I re-enter the product key? If so, how?

    Any other suggestions?

    Thank You

No point in re-entering the Key - it's a Blocked MSDN key. I wish that the MS operators could/would check the provenance of a Key, rather than just its current validity - it would have saved you a lot of hassle. As it is, I suspect that your vendor has now flown the coop, and will not be inclined to refund you, even if he can be reached.

Unfortunately, your Key is from a not-for-resale MSDN account. You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key, and do NOT allow them to waste time with an RMA (all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window. or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

You're welcome - good luck getting a refund (or any sort of satisfaction, come to that)!
