Windows Live Blocked a program RRS feed

  • Question

  • Windows Live One Care blocked a program (below):

    Name:         Windows host process (Rundll32)
    Publisher:    Microsoft Windows
    Location:     C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe
    Company:   Microsoft Corporation
    Version:      6.0.6000.16386

I don't know why it would block a Microsoft program.  I don't know much a bout reading programs so, if anyone could tell me if I should allow this program to access the internet.

    I have:

Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 from Microsoft Corporation

    I am using:

A Dell PC with Inspiron 537
    Intel Celeron CPU 450 @ 2.20 GHz
    2.00 GB RAM
    64-Bit Operating System

  • Rundll is a generic process that is used by other programs.

You would not want to block all instances of rundll32, so the question is what settings are you using for the firewall? Are you asking OneCare to notifiy you for all access or are you only being prompted for unknown programs? If the latter, then there may be a problem that you should contact support for help with as OneCare should not be blocking rundll32. If you are being prompted for any program, then the block and ask is normal and you should probably allow it.
