No Prompt For Selecting Network Type RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Today I installed the OneCare V2.0 Beta, and it went flawlessly on my Vista Home Premium Compaq laptop. One thing I noticed as I was going through the settings was that it flagged my home wifi network as a 'public' network automatically. In other words, there was no prompt for me to select whether I wanted to flag it as 'home or office' or 'public'. Every other firewall I've used in the past has asked for this selection.  I hope that Microsoft will change this minor issue prior to release.

Your home network could be marked public automatically if

    1. You are directly connected to the cable modem

    2.  you have a 10.0 address for your network.

    Can you confirm?

  • 1. Connected by wireless g router to AT&T DSL with PPPoE on the modem

    2.  DHCP hands out a 192.168 addy

  • Can you please provide us the detailed logs by running c:\program files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\OneCareSupport.exe

    This sounds like a bug.

    Thanks

  • You can submit a bug and attach the support logs to the bug on Connect or you can send the zip file to me, sboots@mvps.org, and I'll forward it to Microsoft. If you use email, include "OneCare 2.0" in the subject line and a link to this thread in the message body.
