no dynamic dns updates

    Question

  • I've been trying to get dns updates working on the head node (let dhcp create and update dns entries), but for some reasons this feature seems totally broken. My first step was to disable the etc/hosts file because it was disabling the dhpc console (the dhcp console was trying to open private.<hostname> instead of the FQN name). I somehow suspect this might cause the dns updates to fail on the clients.

    - is there any simple way to get the dns updates to work?

    - is there any way to disable the etc/hosts on the clients?

  • Updating the DNS entries will work best if your CN are connected to the Ent network. If this is the case you can have them register themselves on this network. Use the PSH command:

    Set-HpcNetwork -EnterpriseDnsRegistrationType FullDnsNameOnly

This will allow the NIC to register to the DNS.

If you are running the DNS service inside your private network the command also allows to make such a switch with

    -PrivateDnsRegistrationType
