Re-installation Of Server, Best software to keep it running RRS feed

  • Ok but due to the failed hdd without any notification, and lost of files, I have decided to backup what I can remove the failed hdd and restart the server from New, I am wanting to know peoples best ideas for what I should have on the server to have it running smoothly and for things like security etc. Thanks in advance.

  • I use Avast! for Windows Home Server as my antivirus solution. As for other software to keep your server running smoothly, "as little as possible" is my general answer. The more software you install on your server (or any PC) the more likely you'll eventually experience some sort of system instability. Avoid installing software in a Remote Desktop session, or using keyboard, video and mouse directly connected to your server; such software was probably not designed for use on Windows Home Server, and may not have been tested (extensively, or at all) on Windows Home Server. Windows Home Server add-ins are designed for use on the product.
