WHS Repeatedly shuts down unexpectedly RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do I troubleshoot unexpected shutdowns of WHS?  The shutdowns occur quite frequently but I have no idea what is causing the problem.  Also, what mechanism exists for getting notification id WHS is not running?  I am getting no warnings on the connected computers when WHS is not running.

  • The Windows Home Server connector icon on joined computers should be greyed out if the server isn't reachable for some reason.

As for troubleshooting unexpected shutdowns, is your server an OEM or home-built unit? If it's an OEM unit, troubleshooting starts with a call to the manufacturer, while if it's home-built, you use the same techniques you would for any computer you've built with this issue: check the event logs, make sure everything is properly plugged in/connected, check disk drives and memory for errors, etc.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
