Importing/exporting attachments from one environment to another RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

i am moving from CRM 2011 on-premise to 2013 on-premise on other servers.

I need to copy all the attachments from the old system into the new one.

I am trying to avoid using scribe or any other instances which cost money. i found some options for import but the export part is the tricky one.

    1. how can i export all of the attachments (not email attachments!) into a specific folder?

    2. it might be problematic to access the DB. can i do it without connecting to the existing DB?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ofer

  • Can you simply backup the org database on the SQL server for CRM 2011 and restore it to the SQL server for CRM 2013?  Then import the org and upgrade it?

There isn't an easy solution to migrate the attachments.  The annotation base not only contains the email attachments but any files that have been attached to other record types in CRM.

  • Hi Jason,

I can't use the DB since i can't get to there.

anyway, the new environment has a different customization so this process is not applicable

  • Exporting the attachments will have to be a custom piece. See an example for CRM 4.0 here, you will need to tweak it for 2011:

next, importing the attachments can be done with some manual work using the data import wizard, as described here:
