  • Question

  • So I bought this computer almost exactly a year ago.

I doubt this has anything to do with it but month or so ago it had a bad motherboard(which ruined the ram chips and the cpu) and we had to send it in to get it fixed (It was still under warranty), came back working perfectly.

Then earlier today I get a message popping up that says my version of windows is not genuine. I've done a full virus scan with AVG, and I'm running Spybot S&D as I'm typing this. I have also tried a system restore already, and it didn't change anything.

Any insight into this would be helpful. If possible I would like to stay away from using the restore disc and wiping my hard drive, I don't really have the time to reinstall every program I have on here.

  • The motherboard has been replaced with a Retail one.

Interestingly, I've been unable to find out what manufacturer the OEM_SLP Key is associated with - could you please tell us the manufacturer of your machine?

    ...back to your problem..

Because the replacement has been done with a Retail board, there is no SLIC table to enable self-activation of the OEM_SLP Key in use.

You need to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker, using the link at teh bottom of the System properties page - you may need to activate by phone.

Once complete please post a new MGADiag report so we can confirm everything is OK.

  • My computer came from Systemax

It said activation was successful, the watermark on the desktop went away, and the desktop is still black(I'm assuming a restart will fix that though).

    Here is the report

  • The report looks fine now - you'll have to manually reset the desktop background (right-click  on an empty area and select Personalize)

    Good luck

p.s. - thanks for letting me know the manufacturer!
