OneCare shows external HD "not connected" when trying to set up network on Hub PC RRS feed

  • Question

  • I added a Seagate esata 500g HD via firewire to the HUB PC. It worked fine with the Mimeo SW that came with the HD. I want to use this HD as the central BU device, but my wife's PC on the network is NOT seeing the HD. The HD is set for sharing. When I open OneCare on my (HUB) PC and go to change settings, under "Where" I have selected external HD, but the screen shows EXTERNAL HD ( not connected ). It IS connected, hardware check shows all is OK, what is going ON here? I have even disabled Mimeo and cancelled that BU plan so it would not interfere in any unknown way.

  • Hi Steve, thank you for replying. The problem has been solved. When I installed the new Seagate FreeAgent PRO ESATA HD on my Desktop PC, it was seen by OneCare as a FIXED drive. Therefore, I should have selected Network Device instead of selecting External Hard Drive. Once I selected "Network Drive" and provided the network path, it was then seen on the OneCare network. Thank you again Steve for taking the time to answer, much appreciated,

  • You're welcome and thanks for the update. If you hooked it up via eSATA, it would be considered a fixed drive, hence the need to set up a Share and point OneCare to that Share for backup.

  • Was Central Backup previously configured with a different device on the hub? You may need to reset the backup plan by disabling backup for all PCs and then enabling it again after saving the plan for no backup.

If this doesn't work, try removing the mimeo software completely.

Failing both options, please contact support.
