Environment for Visual Studio Ultimate, Fortify, BPMs, Matlab, Mathematica, etc RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings.

I've searched the Internet & forums but never seen this questioned asked much or ever answered.

Is anyone aware of any companies that rent access to computers that contain expensive software like Visual Studio Ultimate, Fortify, BPMs, Matlab, Mathematica, etc?  The primary purpose would be to learn this software, not to use it yet for making money in a business.

The idea is that you could pay for remote desktop, citrix, or whatever into the machine so you would have access to these expensive tools?  It would kind of be like renting time like they did on the mainframes in the old days.

If you do not know the answer then do you know somewhere else where I may post this?

    Thank you.

  • Hello

Visual Studio 2010 CTP or beta 1 (can't remember exactly) came on a virtual machine. It was moving quite bad and a remote connection would be much worse than a virtual machine. So this isn't much of a option.

However you don't need to rent access ! Visual Studio has a Express version which was designed exactly for learning on it. And it is free !

Here you can download Visual Studio Express and SQL Server Express versions: http://www.microsoft.com/express/Downloads/

Plus all Visual Studio production versions come with a 30 day trial period: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/bb984878.aspx

You can also buy Student Packages which are meant to not be used for commercial use at much lower prices.

Matlab comes with a trial version as well. You can do some research on all software you need to see if there's any trial/express versions.

    Regards
