There is no COA sticker on the case (I opened up the case and checked inside as well). It has been almost a year exactly since the computer was purchased and I have no contact information saved for the guy that sold it to us :( The product key showed as activated and Windows has been installing updates successfully until yesterday when I tried to download Windows Virtual PC so I could run in XP mode. It is very disappointing to know that I have a stolen key.

    I can imagine.

Unfortunately, Craigslist and eBay are commonly used by people to dispose of ‘bargains’, and garner profits.

Your only option to get legal is now to purchase a Full Retail license for whichever edition of Windows you require (or move to another OS completely).
Note that for most people, Ultimate is not necessary – Professional gives almost all the most-used functionality except multiple languages and BitLocker.

Your installation of Windows is counterfeit.
It’s an OEM_SLP-based installation on a Retail motherboard, using the infamous stolen Lenovo Key.
A Retail motherboard cannot possibly have a Windows SLIC table in the BIOS – but yours reports a Hewlett Packard table

You need to purchase and install a legal copy of Windows, from a reputable supplier.

  • Thanks for the quick reply. This is what I get for purchasing a PC from Craigslist and not doing my due diligence. Lesson learned.

Is there a COA sticker on the case?
How long has it been since purchase? – you may be able to chase the vendor for counterfeiting (threaten them with the FBI) and a refund

    I already did – it’s 19:15 here :)

Good Luck with the new OS – I would recommend a clean install whatever you do, as it’s impossible to guarantee the integrity of the current system.
