Microsoft Vista no longer recognises my product key as being valid RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I received an upgrade to Vista Home Premium Upgrade DVD when I purchased by PC from Acer in February. I installed Vista in approx April or May of this Year using the product key provided and had no problems untils last Saturday when the PC blue screened and when I re-booted I was no longer able to log in because my 'Product Key is already in use' and my version of Vista is invalid!!

I can now only access my PC with reduced functionality.

Clearly this is not the case as I have been using it for several months.

Please advise what I can do. Here is the dignostic report

  • Hi sredders,

No, you need to talk to a live Activation Rep. Go back thru the Activate by Phone process, but this time, either select the option to talk to a live Activation Rep, or if there isn't an option, don't enter anything. This should force the automated voice to transfer you to a Rep.  No automated activation will work, talking to the Live Activation Rep is the key.

    Thanks,

    Darin

  • Hi sredders,

It appears that to resolve your issue, you must Activate Windows using the "Activate by Phone" method. Please follow the below option that that best fits your given issue scenario:

    a) If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type in "slui.exe 4" in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.

    b) If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type "c:\windows\system32\slui.exe" press enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone.

    Thank you,

  • Hi

thanks for your resonse, unfortunately I have tried the automated activation service over the phone and this didn't work either.

My PC advised me that the confirmation number I was provided was not correct- I checked this 3 times....

Is there a way I can speak to a real person at Microsoft to activate online. I am in the UK

    Thanks
