The last one is best dealt with using the CheckSUR tool - and fixing that one first...

Please download and save  the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.

The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file  - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your Dropbox/OneDrive Public folder so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

  • Hi Noel,

Thanks for your help on this matter. I have zipped the whole CBS folder. Please advise. Thanks and sincerely appreciate it!

  • Good - it's still just the one Manifest error...

    Unavailable repair files:

I'll post fixes for these errors later.

  • First, the CheckSUR Manifest problem...

    I've uploaded a file - h2maa.zip - to my OneDrive at  Noel's OneDrive

    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…

Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder  h2maa in the same place.

Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Manifests)

Copy the  content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

    Post the new CheckSUR.log file,

  • ...and now for the other file problems...

    I've uploaded a file - h2mab.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive

    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...

Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract

Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'

    Pick that

You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt

    At the prompt type

    DIR C:\h2mab

hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try

    DIR D:\h2mab

    or

    DIR E:\h2mab

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\h2mab  <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type

    EXIT

and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

  • Hi Noel,

    For the h2mab.zip portion.

I have done all steps. Up till the command prompt where I enter C, D & E directories, I get Not Found for all.

    Any advise?

I have extracted all files from h2mab.zip to C:\

  • In normal Windows, please run the flowing commands...

    DIR C:\x*.*

    DIR C:\h2mab

    post the results

(What program are you using to unpack the compressed folder?)

  • AH - that explains things.

WinRAR has a different extraction technique to Windows Compression, and by default doesn't include the folder name.

Please delete those x86* folders found above then re-extract the h2mab.zip file so that the concontents end up in the folder

    C:\h2mab

  • Used Windows Compression to extract, and if target is only C:\ , it will not create the folder. If target is C:\h2mab, it will then create the folder.

During command prompt, DIR D:\h2mab, worked for me. Continued the XCOPY command with no issues.

Completed SFC /SCANNOW, and below is the link for the new CBS.log

Interestingly, it says it's repairing 3 components - but I can only find 2 attempts

  • I've uploaded a file - h2mac.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive

    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...

Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract

Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'

    Pick that

You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt

    At the prompt type

    DIR C:\h2mac

hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try

    DIR D:\h2mac

    or

    DIR E:\h2mac

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\h2mac  <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type

    EXIT

and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt

then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply
