Reveal password field in login

  When I "Sign in" to Msdn forums, it directs me to Hotmail login. But there I need to click "Sign in" (again) for it to reveal the password field. Why is this so? Why can't the field be revealed all along? If I had many email accounts and then I selected one by clicking the button on it, I would understand that the password field was hidden at first. But I have only one account, so why hide the field? Also the "Sign in" button is hidden until I drag mouse pointer over it. Why conceal user interface elements?
