HOW TO FIX WHS PASSWORD FROM CLIENT TO ACCESS WHS CONNECTOR?

Question
-
My WHS computer won't allow me to connect or log on to the whs connector from all clients computer . It's say invalid password, when I know is the right one because I can log on when I connect the monitor and keyboard. I don't want to re-install WHS OS again. I have a lot of videos, music, picture and software over 1.5 terabyte on it and don't want to move them among the clients computers. Is there any way that I can fix this. I even did try the password hint with no luck.

I didn't ask this without a reason - because NVidia video drivers on the server are known to cause such issues.
In this case: Save the following lines in a text file with extension .reg (instead of .txt) and import it into the registry of your home server.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
“SessionImageSize”=dword:00000020
After importing this reboot your server.

I did what you told me and still doing it, so I have decided to uninstall the NVIDIA driver to see if that is the problem and YOU WERE RIGHT. My apology for not agreeing with you about this.
Now I can login from clients using the WHS console and remote desktop for maintenance. Thank you for saving me the time that I would have spent doing it all over again and now I don't have to re-install the OS. I will keep that on mind. So I believe this case is close.
Thank you!

First, you can reinstall WHS without moving data around. But hopefully it won't come to that. ;)
How many computers do you have in your LAN? Does it work from any of them? Does the Console work from the server desktop?Sunday, February 15, 2009 1:11 AMModerator -
Hi,
did you install any additional software on the server (i.e. SharePoint)? Or NVidia video drivers?
If you login on the server locally or via Remote Desktop, use the account name Administrator and the console password.
Check also the event log for errors and warnings around the time, in which you attempted to connect to the console.

I did try that already and all I get is a fresh install, so this for now is out the question. I have 4 computer 2 Win MCE and 2 Win XP 64. Yes, it does. the console work from the server desktop but doesn't from the clients. I'm using the same password but the client connector console doesn't recognize it. I have been scratching my head for the last 2 week to find the solution with no luck.Sunday, February 15, 2009 3:10 AM

I don't have any addon installed and I don't see how the video driver can cause this. Can you tell me why? I can't login on the server via Remote Desktop using the Admin account and password, but I can do it locally with no problem. I haven't done any setting or configuration change since may last year. I use the console a lot like most of you. I hope to find the answer for this before I decide to do a fresh install.
Thank you and Kariya21 for the reply.

The only security software I have installed on the clients is the antivirus nothing else. What else could I do to find the solution?

I have to disagree with you on this. There is a X64 connector for this OS, to be able to install it you have to make sure that the computer have .NET Framework version 2.0 X64 installed and again the X64 connector. People can download it from Microsoft website.

I didn't say there wasn't a 64-bit Connector version of the software. I said XP 64-bit is not supported. If you get it to work, great. But the 64-bit Connector software is only supported for Vista.Sunday, February 15, 2009 8:43 PMModerator -
How do you uninstall the nvdia driver? Did it really fix your issue. I have the same problem now, I called microsoft with no luck. So you can belive when I ask with doubt. Also when doing so did you lose any info on the hard drives?

You can login to the desktop of your home server as Administrator and use Control Panel/Add or Remove Software to uninstall the NVidia drivers.
Or you try the registry fix mentioned earlier in this thread.Best greetings from Germany
