Windows 7 does not recognize my dvd drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been fighting this problem for several days now:

After installing a new DVD burner the new drive was never recognized and the old burner simply vanished.  They don't show up in the device manager, but they are recognized in the bios.  Microsofts diagnostic tool recognizes the problem, but can't fix it.  I believe it to be a driver compatibility issue, but neither windows update nor the manufacturer's website can provide working drivers.  I've also tried deleting and reinstalling from the device manager, booting from the bios, and deleting the lower and upper filters.  Is there ANYONE else who can provide another method.  I'm really trying to avoid having to purchase different burners until I find one that works.
