Cannot install XP on Vista (multiboot) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello folks. I'm new here, so please don't flame at me if this threat is in the wrong section. =)

I've a problem with installing Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. I cannot select the 'Install Windows XP' button on the menu of the DVD. The button and text are grey-scalled.

The DVD is licened from Dell, but I don't think that should be the problem.

Also, I cannot start the DVD from the BIOS. It says that the device is missing, and if I check the BIOS, it is missing! But when I restart and I don't force my pc to start from "Onboard or USB CD/DVD"; then I can use it again.

I don't know if the XP DVD is 32- or 64bit. My Vista Ultimate is 32 bit.

Still, I've searched for a while on the internet and I couldn't find a solution, please help me with this. Ty =]

If you don't understand me properly, please refer that to my non-english background (I'm dutch =]).

Thank you for viewing this and helping me in advance!

P.S. It's 5 in the morning so don't expect me to watch soon =]. I've searched for this all over this night and now I'm off to bed.

Your post regarding how to dual-boot Windows XP MCE and Vista is way off topic.

Good luck in your search for the answers to your questions!

  • I'm sorry for this, but I couldn't find any topic subject for installing XP on Vista with Dual-Boot, I thought this could have to do with the WGA.

    Anyways, thanks.

  • Thanks, but I've already used of many search engines, none contains my problem.

Edit: Well what the.... Actually, it did help, your search terms linked me through a website that had some dual boot program (not naming it (advertising...)).

    Thanks =]

  • Thank you, but I don't think it's needed anymore.

The program I used shut off Vista so it let me install Xp, Vista is gone now, but I still have all my files Smile. I'm sticking with XP now for a while till I found out what is best for me.

Thank you for your advice Dan and Stephen. I don't think you will see me here for a while Big Smile, problem is solved.

  • Sorry for this late respond.

I actually have no idea what I was doing. It was something like VistaBoot or BootVista. Anyways, it helped me and I still have all my files.

    One thing is missing:

OLD (Vista) FILES FROM DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS are missing. And they are unable to recover. Lost 400 songs. Luckely they're on my iPod. Oh well....
