Black screen, saying my copy of windows Vista isn't genuine??!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had my laptop for over 2 years, and now suddenly today it will only let me access my computer with limited functionality, saying my copy of windows isn't genuine! I bought the laptop brand new, and the operating system came with it. It won't let me run hijack this from safe mode, says a shortcut is missing, I have looked for Wga.exe, but it says that isn't on my computer, I have tried putting my product key in and it won't validate it, so I am stuck, I can get online, but with no desktop to use anything I download, but in safe mode it won't let me do much either. I read that I should try and change the key by right clicking computer, then properties, but it won't let me change the product key. Can anyone help me please???

  • In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this linkhttp://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in this thread.

If you do not have access to the Start Button:

    1)   Login to Vista and click the option that brings up Internet Explorer.

    2)   Type: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 into the browser address bar.

    3)   A window will come up asking if you want to “Run” or “Save”, Select “Run”

    4)   When the program runs, click the “Continue” button, then click the “Copy” button.

    5)   Return to this threadhttp://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/thread/FF4E57B0-7FF8-4F06-8D53-CC3F5394FB94.

    6)   In a reply post, paste the Diagnostic Report.

    Thank you,

Rather than posting the same diagnostics in someone else's thread - please post tem in your OWN NEW thread! - it stops everyone getting confused.

You appear to have an Acer version of Windows installed on your SAMSUNG PC.
That particular error message (0xC004C533) is not one I'm familiar with  - so I'll take a guess and say that
you bought the copy of Win 7 on eBay, and that you either didn't enter a Product Key during the installation, or your product Key is the one given above
If the Key you have matches the one above - then you were sold counterfeit software.

If the Key is different to that above - then try entering it in the Change Key option If that is accepted, and then fails activation/validation, run MGADiag again, and post a new report.

Do you have Office installed? - if so, then it's almost certainly a counterfeit copy or a beta copy.

  • This is ridiculous... I've had this HP Notebook since March of 2007 and haven't changed the OS (although I'm considering it now) nor have I upgraded the hardware. Now out of the blue I'm getting this stupid message that I need to activate my Windows. I did this "Activation" back when I bought this Notebook from Circuit City. I have now WASTED THREE HOURS OF MY LIFE that I WILL NEVER GET BACK because of what appears to be YET ANOTHER MICROSOFT ISSUE!

This is ridiculous...

You appear to have a problem! - your BIOS is not consistent with the fact that it's an OEM SLP Key is use - perhaps you've updated it? (If so, see if HP have a further update, because it's their BIOS, and they should have made it compatible with the licensing process!)

The problem arises because Large OEMs use their own Key for installing Windows on all their machines - the OEM SLP Key - this Key is 'locked' to the BIOS with a certificate. If the BIOS changes, the certificate may no longer match, and the install becomes non-valid. The key on the COA Sticker is your own key - the COA SLP key - and will work independent of the BIOS.

The solution is simple - Change the key in use to that on the COA Sticker on the bottom of the laptop.
To change the key, go to System Properties (r-click on Computer, select Properties), and at the bottom of the page is a Change Product Key link - click on that, enter your key in the resulting box, and activate it.

    HTH, and Good Luck

Are you sure it's Windows it's complaining about, and not Office? - your Windows appears to be Activated and Validated.
Try going to the Validation site
and running the Validation tool for both Windows and Office - what EXACT results do you get in each case?
    Does the Notification disappear?
reply with a new MGADiag report when done.
