Security software indicates WLOC Firewall is still installed after uninstalling 2.0 beta RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • It appears the uninstall of 2.0 beta (because of app/firewall issues) did not clean up correctly.  My VPN software runs a firewall security check and it reports that One Care firewall is installed but not turned on (although the Vista firewall is enabled).

I've searched for it and even have run Regmon/Filemon in conjunction with my VPN software to see where it's finding this information but have been unsuccessful so far.  I will contact the group who makes the VPN software but I did find some remnants of One Care in the registry and that alone indicates a failed clean-uninstall.  I have the feeling there are other artifacts present and they are still contributing to the illusion that WLOC is still present.

  • In addition, it appears that the WLOC firewall installs itself as a secondary firewall under the default Windows Firewall in Vista but doesn't turn it off.  After uninstalling WLOC beta 2.0, I have the One-Care firewall still showing up in Security Center's Firewall list but it shows as 'Off'
