  • Question

  • SageTV has its media server software for WHS.  What sort of HDTV tuner will work with WHS - and what is the best HDTV tuner for this purpose?

  • I've been using Hauppauge HVR-1800 card for the past several months with no problem.  I've been able to get quite a few local QAM channels through cable connection.

  • Right now, the two most popular HD tuners seem to be the Hauppauge 1800 mentioned above as well as the HD Homerun.  I am very happy with the HD Homerun, though I haven't put Sage on my WHS server yet.

Both of those options will allow you to tune OTA signals or clear QAM signals from your cable provider.  Hauppauge is about to release a device (HD-PVR) that will capture HD from a component source, such as an STB.

I love SageTV--it is by far the best money I've ever spent on software.  There is a great community at forums.sagetv.com where you can get a ton of great information about SageTV and the many plug-ins available for it.
