Cannot no longer activate XP home... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am doing a fresh install on my home computer, actually twice tonight I didn't like the partitions I sized the first time so I redid install and now I get warning my copy I paid big money for back in the day is no longer of any use...a counter telling me installs left would have made me more conscientous of just doing a new install when things get bogged down...great. How can this be fixed without dishing out the recommended $129.00 for a new copy or sitting on the phone on hold for days then another cDiagnostic Report (1.9.0006.1):

  • Hello,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program forum.  Your issue is related to Windows Product Activation.  In an attempt to assist I would like to provide some information which may or may not help.

    From the Desktop:

    1.

Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Activate Windows.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the taskbar notification area next to the clock.

    2.

Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows now.

    3.

Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.

    4.

Follow the steps in the “Activate Windows by phone” dialog box, and then click Next.

Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5.

When activation is completed and you receive the following message:

You have successfully activated your copy of Windows

    Then click OK.

Also you may reference the following site for various Telephone Activation Centers:
