    General discussion

  • Okay, I know there aren't that many people using a Mac in this particular forum but there are a few who are using Expression Web using Parallels and there certainly must be a fair number of Mac users in the Expression Media section since it is the only program in the suite that comes in a Mac native version but there really is no excuse for tread previewing not to work in Safari.

Like most good front-end web developers and designer I test my sites on the major browsers on both a Mac and  a PC. I'm sitting here typing on my MacBook and went to check this forum only to discover that the thread preview arrow doesn't work in Safari.

Come on Microsoft, as the company that sells one of the most popular applications for the Mac (Office for Mac) doesn't make their forum software fully Mac compatible, especially when one of the programs the forum supports is a Mac native program? Especially, when the primary selling point of Expression Web and Silverlight is that they are cross platform web standard.

  • FWIW thread previewing works in the Win version of Safari (V3.1.2).

I must admit I now rely on testing in the Windows version of Safari and assume a site will work on the Mac version. Obviously not valid. I wonder what else breaks?

  • Hmm, ran software update on my Mac and the dropdowns are working now. So it seems it may depending on which version of Safari for the Mac you are using.

Ah, so it was a Safari issue and not a forums issue? Well, at least that's one that can't be blamed on the forum software. ;-)

Not that there isn't a plethora of other issues. I use Firefox 3, and the Telerik editor component (that we use to reply) has broken functionality in FF. It does work much better in IE, but even there it has a couple of little quirks that don't affect functionality much. Given the relative difference in standards adherence between Firefox and IE, I rather doubt that the issue is a Firefox problem in this case.

  • Well the jury is still out on that one since looking at the update log there were no updates to Safari in the one I just installed so it looks like the "fix" was dumping the cache and all MS javascript. The same "fix" that needs to be done with some regularity on IE 7 as well. Which makes it still a forum issue in my book.

  • I have a similar issue on Safari. In short, I am not able to post a message using Safari on my iPad/iPhone. The edit box to enter the message simply doesn't show. As the OT is saying, there aren't probably a lot of people on this forum using a Mac but there have to be a lot that use an iPad/iPhone.
