  • Question

  • I bought xp home as i could not get used to win 7 i joined big fish games (since reported them) as i was sitting at my pc weird things started to happen, and i found and eradicated 22 adare, pups and trojans from pc, too late to stop the damage, one was called cross rider it stole most of my keys, and when i done as requested by MS agent i now have to activate by telephone.

I am genuine and this is really tedious and upsetting, i am told used too many times, can someone reset this for me so if i get anything again i can enter my key and have it activate over the internet.

Surely i should not be punished for some hacker.. again

and i flat refuse to buy a key as i am very ill and saving for my funeral is more important than being ripped off

The key updater was useless as i do not possess another key

    Help me someone

  • All Product Keys have a limited number of Internet activations - after which there must be at least one telephone activation.

Please be aware that your install of XP Home is an OEM License - which is limited to activation on the current motherboard only.

Also please be aware that it's very rare to be able to purchase a legal XP pack nowadays, and the counterfeiters are by far the majority.

If you do have to telephone activate in future, I suggest that you follow the following procedure to reduce the aggravation factors to a minimum.

Use the Telepone activation procedure on the PC to get the number for the local activation center, and then Machine ID.

When you telephone, do NOT respond to any of the automated prompts to pick which service you require. This should force an operator to pick up who can deal with you.

You can avoid any necessity of re-activation by creating ain image of your activated (and updated/optimised) system, and restoring that at need. There are many available products which can do this - I would recommend one which works offline, rather than from within Windows, as it reduces the chances of interference from running programs. Some of these products are very good, and best of all, are free.

I thank you again for looking into this for me, i lost xp pro retail, for the same reason, i was suddenly told no more activations, so why do the security fixes not work.

I use vipre and malware anti malware, so was lucky to limit the damage, though ny pc became unresponsive.

My eyesight is very bad due to my illness and having to activate by telephone and put all those characters in is getting too much for me.

All i ask is that if anything goes wrong again why can i not simply activate over the internet.

And yes i bought this from a store but only one key with it, that is why i registered with microsoft

    Kind Regards

  • It validates for me, but insists been used too many times, and i have to spend 30 minutes on the telephone to activate it. Never had this problem in the past, apart for xp pro retail, which i binned in frustration.

£120.00 down the drain. As i was told i needed to buy another key, forgive me here but an analogy.

you buy a car the manufacturer does not tell you you can only fill the tank with gas ten times, if you do you will have to buy something to unlock that which you already own.

I paid good money for my software and do not hand my key out, i even bought win7 but too complicated for me.

I would have preferred my retail version, seemed more secure but that is gone now.

not complaining about the activation, complaining that if i need to reformat like i was told to do by an MS employee i expect it to activate over the internet, i own the software
