I just received a Windows message today that my version of XP Pro isn't genuine. After doing some research, I found that the company I purchased it from, Microcity4less was involved in a lawsuit with MS for piracy. They apparently don't exist any longer, but one of the sister companies named in MS's press release about the suit, gizmos2go, is still around. Does anyone know if I have any recourse with them or any recourse at all? or, am i just out the money I paid? Sorry if this has been answered before, but I did a forum search and nothing came up. Is shelling out another $149 my only option? What a rip.
You can try submitting a counterfeit report at www.microsoft.com/genuine (click Validate Windows) and then "See all options". If the counterfeit materials you have is of high-quality (examples can be found at www.howtotell.com) - it is likely you'll get a free WGA kit. However, the wait time is up to a month or so for our cryptographic services lab to run tests on the holograms, etc.
