Microsoft changed the support lifecycle for Windows 7 Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, and
Ultimate on February 20, 2012.
All editions of Windows 7 will now receive a full 10 years of security updates. The new
ending date for Windows 7 support is now January 14, 2020.
Previously the Windows 7 consumer editions were not scheduled for extended support.
Mainstream support (enhancements, service packs, and new features) will end on January 13,
2015 as scheduled. Microsoft also made the same change for Vista consumer editions. Extended
support for all Vista editions ends April 11, 2017.
