Allow OWA user to change password on password expiration RRS feed

Jawaban

  • Hello "Hello Exchange" ...

Its true that your user cannot reset OWA password thru standard OWA page if their password has expired.

To workaround, you have answered your 1st question... redirect user to goto IISADMPWD page, for your second question... where is that IISADMPWD? E2K7 doesnt use IISADMPWD by default, you will have to implement it manually, once its implemented on your IIS, you can direct your user to https://exchange.company.com/IISADMPWD/aexp4b.asp to reset expired password.

here's the link to implement IISADMPWD http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297121/en-us

  • Dear customer:

I want to clarify the issue first. Which version is your Exchange server?  Do you want to enable change password feature via OWA?

If so, please refer to the following articles:

Implementing the Change Password feature with Outlook Web Access

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;297121

How to use the IISADMPWD password change pages

Additionally, I didn’t see the following word; please explain it more clearly, so that I can give you more help.

redirect the OWA user to change password page on password expiration

Hope it helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know.

  • Dear Rock

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

We are using Exchange 2007 and OWA 2007. Our users can change password via OWA 2007.

However, some users faced expiration of password during their long vacation and they wanted to use OWA at home.

So, I am thinking of how we can provide a way to let the user to change password at anywhere. Is there any read-to-use solution?

Also, where can I find the appearance of IISADMPWD password change pages?

  • Hi Howard

    1. I guess password change page is useful to us. However, I want to know if a user's password is expired, can he/she access the password change page? If yes, it definitely can help us.

    2. I wonder if I can setup the password change page at any IIS server (Not OWA server).

Sure, thats the whole point for enabling the IISADMPWD VD such that your password expired user can set a new password using their old password. Theoretically, the VD is an IIS stuff not Exchange, so yes you should be able to have that on a plain IIS, but again, that's 'theoretically', as i haven't tried to break them apart, do drop us a note for the result.

  • Thanks a lot.

I'll try on plain IIS first as I don't want to touch the production OWA. Let you know the result.

  • Finally, I have found a chance to test it as I cannot turn someone's a/c to be expired earlier.

The case is the user cannot login via the page, althouth the user could log on the PC joined domain. That means a user with expired account cannot login the page to change the password.

Anyone can confirm I am right or not?

  • We have ours setup so that if a users account is set to change password at next login or if the password has expired, IIS running on the Exchange server sees that and redirects them to the IISAdmPwd pages. We had to have Microsoft help us get it working right due to some misconfiguration on the server from the previous admin. But from watching him and from my readings, the IISADMPWD virtual directory needs to be under the same website as OWA. In our case we have one website that is all our help pages and runs on port 80. A user then clicks a link and is redirected to another website on same server running all the OWA and it runs on port 443. The Microsoft tech had to run some scripts to set the flag on the server running IIS. These scripts are documented on Microsoft but here is the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833734. After that, he just made sure that anonymous access was set on the directory security for the virtual directory in IIS and also that IISADMPWD is running under the exchange application pool. IT took about 3 hours for him to fix some other issues that were preventing it from working but I don't think they were centered around the IISADMPWD. He even helped me modify the pages and hardcode the domain so that end users do not have to even enter it in the format of domain\username. They do not even have to use it when logging in to OWA now. They just type their password. There is just a line in the pages that says domain="". Just put your domain name in. One thing, if you have multiple domains this will not work. It only works if you have a single domain. We are running a FQDN and it works great. Hope this helps.

  • Hi,

I have successfully setup IISADMPWD  and it is working. What I want now is that when users login to the webmail (OWA 2007) and their passwords have expired, they will be automatically be redirected to the IISADMPWD password change page (https://domain.com/IISADMPWD/aexp4b.asp). How do I achieve this?

    Thanks for any help!
