Yet another windows 7 not genuine issue RRS feed

  • I have been running Win 7 Home Premium with no issues since October 23 or so.  The day before yesterday I go the Windows not genuine message in my lower right hand corner.  When I reboot I do not get this message, but it comes on and stays after a few minutes.  My diagnostic report states that my copy is not genuine, but it is, bought from Digital River, and it has been fine until 2 days ago.  Here is the report any help would be much appreciated:

  • Since I wrote my response I found an article on activating windows services and activated the services that were disabled, particularly the software protection service.  I was then able to activate windows online.  It said my activation period was up, but I know I activated it in October.   In any case the non-genuine message is now gone.  I will report back if it stays gone.

      The Diagnostic Report suggests that Windows 7's Licensing Store may be corrupt or unreadable.  Please try the below steps to recreate the Store.

    1) Open an Internet Browser
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
    5) Type: net stop sppsvc   (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    Note: the Software Protection servive may not be running, this is ok.
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automaticly.

    Thank you for the instructions.  Unfortunately it did not work.  When I got to the step to rename the tokens. dat I got the message "The system cannot find the file specified."   Also I was told that the software protection service is not started, and eventually at the end a windows box came up saying that Windows activation could not run "an error has occurred."  I can send a screen shot of this iif that will help.   Thanks.
