need to know origin of follow up tasks with original records

Question
-
Hi all
When I create a follow up activity, using the "follow up" button on the
activity form (e.g. an open task); then I can create a new activity through
the form assistant.
This form assistant provides following tip:
record or activity".
Now, if that's really true, this would be the solution i was looking for; but:
How do I capture the original activity from the new follow up activity that
was created?
Purpose: because when I create a follow up activity, I would like a
registration on the follow up task from which activity it was created
The tip in the form assistant seems to state that this seems to be available
out of the box, but when looking into the attributes on the several acitivity
types, there seems to be no such field that is associates the new follow up
activity with the orginating activity...
Anyone who knows how to capture the original activity the follow up was
created from?
Thanks in advance!

You cannot create self referencing relationships between activities so adding a look up to the original activity is out. Here are a few possible options I would recommend.1- Train users to copy the subject of the original activity and append a number at the end.e.g. (parent activity) STAGE 1: Build Event Collateral for event: Product Training(Follow-up activity) STAGE 1: Build Event Collateral for event: Product Training 2(Next follow-up) STAGE 1: Build Event Collateral for event: Product Training 32- Create a plug-in that adds a ID to each activity. Add a text field called Reference no. to the activity form. Ask the system users to copy the reference of the parent activity on follow-up activities.Hope this helps.Hassan.

Hi Natarajan,If you are not comfortable with building a plug-in I would recommend you go with the first solution which is to ask users to keep the subject line and append a number to the subject. This should be easy to do and give users a visual reference as to which activities are related and the order in which they are created.Hassan.
