Backup Data in CRM Online RRS feed

  • Question

  • We need to backup data on a regular basis (not the meta data).  What are our options?  We were hoping to automate the process rather than relying on users to remember to export data.

  • Hi,

CRM Online is backup by Microsoft so you really need to worry about losing the data unless people manually deleting the data.  If you are switching from online to on-premise, you can tell Microsoft to send you the CRM database.

However, you can check with Microsoft to see if they have any period backup options available.

The other approach is to write a small custom app to retrieve data from CRM Online via the CRM SDK.

Also if you don't want to write your own custom app to export data, you can look into Scribe software for exporting data since they have the CRM Online Adaptor. The use their software to setup an integration to bring data to your server.

    I hope this helps.

  • A very affordable solution is CozyRoc SSIS+ library. It includes adapters for Dynamics CRM, which you can use to transfer data to your database system. The licensing is very liberal and affordable. You can find more information about the product here.
