Product Key Coming Back Invalid RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am currently trying to install OEM WHS 2011 that i bought from Amazon on a Hyper-V Machine in Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2. It was originally installed on a dedicated machine but it has since died; i have purchased a full fledged server and want to move it over to this new machine. My question -- once i get through the initial install, copying and installing, I get through the initial product key request, it returns it as valid. But when the install goes to complete the install and asks for the product key the 2nd time (@setup), it keeps rejecting my product key. Says it is an invalid product key.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  • I doubt you will get the answer here - I suggest you call the Microsoft activation phone number for your region. As WHS2011 is OEM, it's tied to the hardware on which it is first installed - that may be the problem but if you can find anyone at Microsoft who even knows what WHS is, you will be lucky!

  • Hi,

Contact the local Microsoft customer service representative by phone, Activation Wizard might provide you the phone number.

Note: If you choose to contact a customer service representative by telephone. In that message, the installation ID is displayed to you. The customer service representative will ask you to read the installation ID over the telephone. Alternatively, automated telephone response systems will guide you through the activation process.

    Best Regards,
