  • Hello mrLambe,

    Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 was distributed as OEM software.  It is likely that your installation of Office Basic 2003 was somehow corrupted which would account for the unusual status as shown in the mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 104 Unknown PID
    Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003 - 104 Unknown PID
    OGA Version: N/A, 0x80070002
    Signed By: N/A, hr = 0x80070002
    Office Diagnostics: 77F760FE-153-80070002_7E90FEE8-175-80070002_025D1FF3-230-1_B4D0AA8B-920-80070057

    I would suggest using the Office 2003 FixIt in this MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/en-us  to uninstall Office Basic 2003, restart the computer twice, then do a fresh installation of Office Basic 2003.  Are you using burned discs or the original genuine Microsoft hologrammed installation discs that came with the computer from Dell?  Whenever possible use the genuine discs rather than burned for greater installation stability and to eliminate the chance of inadvertently installing malware that can come with burned or downloaded installation discs and/or files.

    Once reinstalled, restart then go back to www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  Then post back to let us know the results :-)

  • followed the steps for validation-installed as directed.

    got this:

    Many customers are surprised to learn that their Office software cannot be classified as genuine. Our goal is to help you understand the reasons why your copy did not pass validation, and to show you how you can address this situation

    as I said I bought this Dell dimension with MS Office pre-installed?
