after installing first Exchange 2016 server, Outlook showing logon popus RRS feed

  • Pertanyaan

  • I'm working with a customer who still has an Exchange 2010 environment. We started a migration by installing the first Exchange 2016 CU23 server. Immediately after installing the new server, the Outlook 2019 clients started showing logon popups, despite all mailboxes were still on Exchange 2010. Cause the users are all using smartcard logon, that really blocked them from using Outlook.

From my understanding the new server wrote its SCP information into Active Directory configuration - so the new server shows up as autodiscover server. But the server should as well be able to support the Outlook clients with a valid autodiscover answer...??

  • So the issue is truly with Microsoft.

There's only one fix and that is the registry fix, however, that fix is per person, per machine.

We've had to run the fix ANYTIME that a user is put onto a system, workstation or remote access server, and it must be done seperately.

We did ask Microsoft Tech Support for a way to push it via GP but we've been getting the runaround on that one.

  • Dear fgc,

I am not sure on the solution provided, but there are two ways to resolve it ,

1- Change the AD to disable exchange SCP (not recommended)

2- On Exchange 2016 perform the below,

Configure and Install Certificate on the Exchange 2016 ,

Ensure that Exchange 2016 all Virtual Directories are set

Change the Private DNS to point to Exchange 2016

Also ensure the outlook provider is set to use outlook anywhere

    Hope that helps

If you found the response helpful kindly mark as answer

Outlook 2016 and later, including the version you mention, live and die by the data returned from AutoDiscover.

I suggest getting the AutoDiscover XML data and looking at the various urls in the result.  If this is not office 365, there could be "internal urls" listed for which users don't have access, or for which DNS is pointing to a server for which they don't have rights.

It seems to be quite common that the internal url values for the many exchange virtual directories are missed in the configuration/setup.

There are several cmdlets that can let you look at the values, such as Get-MapiVirtualDirectory.
Get-Command get-*virtual* will list all the cmdlets that have the word virtual in it if you are curious as to what exists.

The only one that falls outside of this pattern is Get-OutlookAnywhere.  Not used as much any more with newer outlook and exchange, but still important to configure properly.

Does Outlook prompt for password twice?

In case it was related with incorrect cached password, please check following steps to remove them:

    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Credential Manager.
    2. Locate  the set of credentials that has Outlook or your account name in the name.
    3. Click the name to expand the set of credentials, and then click Remove from Vault.
    4. Repeat step 3 for any additional sets of credentials that have the word Outlook in the name.

We can also recreate a new profile for one problematic user to test the results.

If issue continues, please also check “Allow Office to connect to the Internet” under Trust Center Privacy Options. This will allow Office to connect to online services like https://femaledelusioncalculator.net/
