How to write technical documentation of IT infrastructure

Hello,I have need for technical documeation of an IT infrastructure in company I'm going to administer.I'm not really sure what should be in that documentation.Can anyone point me to some example of that kind documentation?I would really appreciated any help.Regards2009년 7월 24일 금요일 오후 1:24

Hello,
a very simple one:

If you start with that one and add all used hardware and software on the differnet machines in detail, you have a baisc one. Then add your ways to handle backups, information about shared folders and permissions, Group policies and scripts you are running. And so you can go on with all needed server roles like AD, DHCP, DNS, Mail services, firewalls etc. etc.

Documentation is always one of the most overlooked areas of an IT infrastructure. I have used this tool for years and there are various iterations of it out on the internet.
It is called SYDI-Server
It will build you .XML files with your machine configurations. It also includes XML-Word Converters to build your documents + It will build an IP MAP and Server / App / VLAN Layout in XLS.
Check it out you won't be disappointed.
