Windows 7 suddenly not genuine RRS feed

  • Pytanie

  • I bought Win7 Ultimate at some point in November 2009 from an online retailer as a download. All worked fine until yesterday when I suddenly got the notification that my Win7 isn't genuine.

I only used this online retailer as a friend used him several times over a longer period and he never had any problems. It is installed at only one machine and I haven't made any hardware changes or something like this since installation of Windows 7.

Can anybody help me with that?

  • Hello LaurinThePrussian,

The key you are using is a Blocked MSDN key that was sold to you in violation of the MSDN Subscription licensing agreement under which it was provided to it's original owner, by MS.

Please read the following sticky thread as well as, file a claim with the auction site or seek a refund from the retailer. Do not accept a replacement key, it will also likely fail validation, also.http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/genuinewindows7/thread/a2444f34-0aff-4f29-a8ac-67e28b0c0285

    Thank you,

  • Hello there, I'm writing from Italy. I'm having a problem similar to the one whose description I'm replying to.

In 2009, I bought a Toshiba Tecra A10-124 and I used it for a few years with, both, Windows Vista and Windows XP, both x32. Then, I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I bought a license key, on eBay, from a  Belgian retailer. I was sent the following license code: J6P2R-JYG8K-3F2YG-TWJ6B-PDQMT , together with a digital river  link (http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-59465.iso) from where I could download the ISO file that I needed.  This happened on December 10 2013, the nickname of the eBay seller being Kevindeb 7  (Kevin Debruiker 7100, La Louvière, BE) and the eBay transaction number being 1130038162001 , whilst the eBay object number was  111234641372.
Everything went the right way and I had no problem whatsoever to install the OS and activate it with the above key.  Needless to say, I was always able to download and install all possible updates released by Microsoft, as well  But, approximately one year ago, the boot partition of my Tecra had disk crashed, leaving me with a non-bootable PC.  I abandoned that PC, but I had now decided to rebuild that system, reformatting and reparitioning the hard disk and reinstalling the OS bottom-up. Obviously, my first step was to look forward downloading the ISO file that I had intention to use to reinstall the OS.  As those files aren't available on digital river servers any longer, I went to the Microsoft ones, where I was asked for and entered the above license key.  However the response was a sentence stating that there is a problem with that license key and inviting to contact Microsoft customer support,.. And this is what I'm  doing!

Is there anyone having an idea of why is this happening?

Before purchasing that key I had investigated the seller and I had requested to be specifically reassured that the license key that I was going to buy wasn't an MSDN one!

     Thank you: Aldo

  • It has never been possible to legally purchase Windows 7 for download except through the Microsoft Store.

Your purchase is therefore counterfeit - the Key probably falls into the class of abused MSDN-type.

To confirm this, try telephone activation and speak to an operator.

No - I do not work for Microsoft, or any of its contractors.
