  • We could look to enable links in the bio if folks feel it's valuable. If it is, what would be the most common things you'd link too?

First, thanks to Wentzel for suggesting this! I've thought this SOOOO many times and kept forgetting to make a fuss.

    Sean,

Here are all the things I would use it for:

    1. To link to my blogs (I have two related blogs -- professional and Wiki). Currently I link to one of them.
    2. To link to my Twitter. I have two related Twitter accounts that I would link to -- professional and Wiki. I drop the URL in the profile even though it's not a link. Just so folks can copy and paste it.
    3. To link to my favorite Wiki pages that include links out to other Wiki pages. So I can evangelize my work a little better.
    4. To link to my LinkedIn profile. Some people might use a Facebook link instead or in addition to this.
    5. Some people might link to a company site (in addition to their blog). I might link to a SQL Server site that shows off our products.
    6. Some people might want to just include a link to their professional email. I would. It just opens up so much more communication. An alternative is a personal message (PM) or a message box that sends out to your email (if spam is an issue).
    7. Some people might want to link to forums that they are moderators for (or frequent).

    Thanks!

  • Looks like it's not allowed. I just tried adding a standard link using <a href and got a message that < is not allowed.

You can, however, add a link to your signature.

  • Probably a link to the company and a link to the blog in the bio. But in theory this can be abused by adding a link to some bad site.

True, but links in signatures could also be abused....

  • Yes, I was thinking about it as well. In other words, it will be the same risk as a link in the signature, thus can be allowed.

Plus we're currently allowed to link to one website, so there's already potential abuse going on. It would just be another potential 3-5 abusive links instead of just 1. =^)

Overall, it would be worth the value, IMO.

You can also currently add a link in the "Website" section. I know that's not what you want, but that's part of the facts. =^)

  • Thanks Ed.

Quite possible we are working on enabling some of these scenarios at the moment. At least a few social network contact points. More to come as implementation progresses.

  • I dont believe you can add it here. I have tried a few times and had no luck
however there is a section to add your website in your profile section as well as all of your social media profiles.

    Hope this helps!
