Process “Service Host: Local System” use a lot of memory resource RRS feed

  • We are using Windows Server 2012 R2 and we have the following issue of process “Service Host: Local System” use a lot of memory resource.

    When we have a fresh reboot, the memory utilization of “Service Host: Local System” is (57.5MB) and it continuing to slowly grow. It was up to (779 MB) as below screenshot after 2 weeks. Please advise the solutions of the issue.

    According to your description, the Service Host Service is occupying a large amount of memory. This is usually not a single system service, there are many different services running under this service, such as Bits and Windows Update as shown in the picture.
    So you can use the Process Explorer tool to see what services are using a lot of memory under Service Host. <o:p></o:p>

    You can end the corresponding service or find the service in the service window to disable.
    Also because Bits and Windows Update are services. If there was a similar problem before, please update the system first. If there is a new security update, install it first. You can then turn off the Bits and Windows Update services to see if this still happens.
    At the same time, you can also use the following command to repair the system files. Right-click administrator to run the CMD window.
    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    sfc /scannow
