• So i download the DirectX update constantly once its through with the first step an error comes up once it goes to initializing.  It says exactly:

A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted.  Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file certificate is valid.***********

so these are the steps ive taken on my own to resolve the issue to no success. ive turned the cryptographic services on and off restarted and turned off and back on again and the problem persists.  Then i started doing windows updates and 2 of which were completed. Same problem persists.  Next i downloaded various microsoft products off the site that pertain to validation and things that sounded like they could solve the issue but none have.  i am desperate and i need help.

  • Mike,

To help me understand the issue further can you please follow the steps below?

    1. Download and run the WGA Diagnostic Tool

    2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy" at the bottom right of the window. Paste the results into your forum response by starting a new post/thread and holding down "CTRL" and clicking "V" while still having "CTRL" held.

  • I am having the exact same problem, and from perusing your site I see numerous users are. In other posts the tech was insensitive enough to advise the users to 'contact their gaming' provider and that this was NOT an Microsoft issue *sigh*. At any rate, here is the information from my system not sure how helpful it is to you at the moment but hoping someone at Microsoft is coming up with a fix for what is appearing to be a 'larger' issue.

  • Hello April Dawn,

DirectX install is not supported in this forum, but I did find some information that might help. The below steps were taken from a Microsoft Developer Network page at

DirectX 9.0c gives error "A cabinet file is necessary for installation and cannot be trusted." ERROR during installation. This problem happens in most cases due to system corruption or users disabling their cryptography services. Please try the following steps to see if it resolves the issue.

1: Make sure your cryptography services are enabled. To do this, go to my computer | manage | services and applications | services. Then go to cryptography services properties and make sure the service is started and startup type is set to automatic.

2: If you are running Windows on a FAT32 drive, run scandisk.

3: Try the resolution steps in;en-us;813442.

4: Try the resolution steps in;EN-US;822798.

5: Remove temporary files in %temp% and (if installing end-user runtime)
    %windir%\system32\directx\websetup Error

And be sure your virus protection program is turned off during install.

If this does not resolve your issue, please go to for additional Windows support options.

    Thank you,
