"File System Errors" on Windows 7 RRS feed

  • 問題

  • Hi, my notebook computer seems to start having problems when it is being turned on for a pretty long period of time, fro example, 6-7 hours.
Many programs can't be opened and fuction nomrally, and sometimes there will be a box saying "File system error".
I have to restart to solve the problem.

I am using Windows 7, and have the lastest Microsoft Updates.

I first doubt its a Ram Problem, since last time my computer is having this error, my RAM consumption can't go above 1.97GB, while I have 4GB ram.

But when I restart, I tried to open more programs and I can have my RAM usage go above 1.97 GB. So I later guess its not RAM problem. I have bought this computer for just almost a year.

    Model: TOSHIBA Satellite S6980
CPU: Intel Core Duo 2 Duo CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.19GHz
Ram: 4GB (3.87GB usable) <---that what written on my computer info page. I don't know why only part of the ram is useable.
    Windows 7, 64bit.

    Thanks

  • Hi Rom,

Maybe you can try to do a disk scan first and see if it help.

for more infomation please have a look at the URL below.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors

If possible could you have a look at your Event Viewer, and post the details of the error to us,

so that we can have more information to see what is more likely to cause the problem.

Please correct me if my concept is wrong

  • HI Rom,

Lets try to do a disk scan first once you finished the disk scan, could you have a look at the event log and see if the disk scan find any problem with your computer.

Could you try to un-install and re-install Windows Live Messenger see if it could resolve the Windows Live Messenger problem.

If it could not be fix, Maybe you can try the method from the blog post below. However this blog post is in chinese. If you have difficulty on reading chinese, please let us know, we could try to make a english version =P

  • The problem is still there.

Disk Scan find no errors, and even after I reinstall Windows Live and follow the blog, sometimes when I have turned on the computer for a long time, same things happen.

I beleive its not the problem of those Windows live programs, because my skype and adobe reader also have problems when I am in the situation described.

Skype gave me this error message: "No memory for this action"
But I have 4GB ram, and only ~1.9GB is in use!!

  • Seems that is HD's problem

Normally, for me I will try to reinstall whole system

    You tried before?

  • I have reinstalled the system. It was fine for a while.

However, after about 3 months, the problems is back again.

If I turn on the computer for a long period of time, suddendenly opening any programs will give error messages.

Such as "Its Read Only, cannot write" "Program Error" "Not enough Ram", depending on which program it is.

  • most like'ly is over heat...check the laptop is it veryhot? compare to the first month you bought, if too hot just bring it back to toshiba for repair. sound like hd problem.

RAM : for windows 32 bit it only use 3Gb of ram, if you want to use all ram you need to install the system to 64bit

HD: you can use a hireboot cd to boot up and have a disk checking after your laptop is running after and 6 hour (which become very hot)
