Want to replace Heartbeat cable RRS feed

  • 問題

  • Currently, we have CCR cluster on our Exchange 2007. Each node has two NIC. One for private network and one for public network.

    Any suggestion fore replacement of hearbeat cable? Should I stop CCR or just unplug the old one and plug in the new one? (I am not sure if loss of heartbeat connection will trigger failover process.)

    Dear customer:

    Based on my knowledge, on normal condition, if you can determine the owner of the File Share Witness before replace heartbeat, the replace operation doesn’t cause CCR failover.

    Dear customer:

    The most security method is to stop CCR two nodes and then replace the heartbeat cable.

    In addition, for more information about Scheduled and Unscheduled Outages, please refer to the following article:

  • Thanks for the information. But we can't afford to stop both nodes as we don't want to lose data.

    In our case, each node have four NICs. Currently, two NICs forms a teaming for mixed communication, one connected for private communication, and the last one is not setup.

    I guess I can do it phase by phase to replace cable for current private connection and add a new private connection for redundancy.

    Now
    ===
    NIC1 -> Mixed (Teaming)
    NIC2 -> Mixed (Teaming)
    NIC3 -> Private (Heartbeat)
    NIC4 -> None

    Phase 1
    ======
    1. Stop Node 2
    2. Configure as below
    NIC1 -> Mixed (Teaming)
    NIC2 -> Mixed (Teaming)
    NIC3 -> Private (Heartbeat)
    NIC4 -> Private (Hearbeat1) - plug in cable
    3. Start Node 2

    Phase 2
    ======
    1. Stop Node 2
    2. Configure as below
    NIC1 -> Mixed (Teaming)
    NIC2 -> Mixed (Teaming)
    NIC3 -> Private (Heartbeat) - replace cable
    NIC4 -> Private (Hearbeat1)
    3. Start Node 2

    Do you have any comment?
