fail to send out email without notices RRS feed

  • 問題

  • Case:

The case is one of our staffs Gary sent an email to multi recipients. His recipients are in both LAN and outside WAN. The recipients in the LAN side were successfully received the email but the recipients from the outside WAN wasn’t able to receive it. However, there was no message of showing the undeliverable message back to Gary.

    Environment:

We have setup the VSL gateway (VSL GW is for filter out the spasms and viruses from the emails before delivering to the exchange server) in between the router and the exchange server. Every email are sent and received via the VSL gateway before getting into the exchange server. Our exchange server is version 6.5.7638.1 and it is installed into Windows server 2003 R2 with SP2. Every workstation is using Outlook 2003 as the client.

    Troubleshoot:

In order to discover the problem, we chase back the record by searching it with our exchange server and VSL gateway. First, we check with the VSL gateway. Within the GW, it doesn’t contain any record of that undeliverable mail. It didn’t filter it or whatnot. So we went down to the exchange server, and search with the mail tracking center. The exchange server has its record, but it only shows me the undeliverable NDR record. I believe that it can’t send out to gateway. However, we couldn’t found any problem on gateway, Would you let me know what the kind of problem we occurs on the server.

We have also test Gary s email account to send email with existing with non-existing email addresses. The out come is the testing email was successfully sent to the existing accounts and there were some notifications of the testing email wasn’t able to deliver to the non-existing accounts.

    Question:

What is mostly the reason of creating this problem and how to avoid it?

Why is the email only sent to the LAN users other than the outside WAN?

    How should I fix it?

  • I think mostly could casued by following.

1:Check if other user got the same problem.

If yes, check send connector setting if exchange 2007 is allowed to send to "*"

If other users got no problem

Check if user can send to a single recipient in WAN side.

If yes, mostly some of the recipient could be non-existing. Other wise, that users setting could got some problem.(Check user's mailbox/account setting in Exchange 2007 compare with other users

  • Dear customer:

In order to better troubleshoot the issue, please collect the following information:

    1. His recipients are in both LAN and outside WAN, what does it mean? Is it means that the recipients are all internal user or not?
    2. Does the recipients include external user?
    3. Do the sender and recipient who can’t receive the message belong to the same Exchange server or not?
    4. Do the sender and recipient who can’t receive the message belong to the same routing group or not?
    5. How many Exchange servers do you have in your organization?
    6. Describe the topology of your Exchange server mail flow? Such as BE-FE-Gateway-Internet.
    7. The exchange server has its record, but it only shows me the undeliverable NDR record. Send the screenshot of it to v-rocwan@microsoft.com for analyze.
    8. On Exchange server, try to send e-mail to the recipient via telnet tool and check the effect.

  • Hi Keith,

One other things you can check is using the message tracking in Exchange Server, if the users have email sent to others there should have succssfully sent in the tracking information. Furthermore, you can check if there have a vaild SMTP email address in the AD Users and Computers of this users account. Sometimes the users may only have internal email address and the email will not able to sent out.

Lastly, you need to check if it is presistance on the email account, is it the only accounts got that problem? Can you re-open a email account to this users and the problem can be fix etc. If you are using ISA server, is there have any blocking on the ISA itself?
