    Dear all,

I got the following unexpected FTP put command running for 5 minutes:

Symptoms: Using Internet Transfer Control to put 5 files to MS FTP server programmatically, the first file of 1K was put successfully at 01:26:25.  After waiting exactly 5 minutes, the second file was succesfully put at 01:31:26.  Here is the FTP log files:

    01:26:25 192.168.63.50 [3]created /20081208/LTN20081208065_C.HTM 226
    01:31:26 192.168.63.50 [4]USER abc 331
    01:31:26 192.168.63.50 [4]PASS - 230
    01:31:26 192.168.63.50 [4]sent /20081208/LTN20081208065_C.HTM 226

Sofware Details:  Windows 2000 Server SP4, IIS 5.0, MS FTP Server, Visual Basic 6.0 SP4

Please let me know the reason behind the 5 minutes runtime.  Can the wait time be customized?  Thanks.

    Regards,

    Wilson

  • Dear Customer,

Based on my research, I suggest you boot the computer into the Clean Boot environment before leaving the computer, and test the issue again.  To boot into Clean Boot, please refer to the following steps:

    a. Click Start, click Run, type "msconfig" (without the quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.

    b. In the Startup tab, click the "Disable All" button.

    c. In the Services tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" checkbox, and then click the "Disable All" button.

    d. Click OK and restart your computer.

    Hope this helps.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Zhang

  • Dear Tom,

Thanks for you advice.  Actually the production FTP server is reboot weekly, the FTP problem happens 5 times so far in FTP get operation and FTP size operation.

Reviewing Visual Baisc 6.0 code in FTP client, we have set the request timeout property in Internet Transfer Control 6.0 to 30 seconds.  However, the FTP operation somtimes timeouts exactly in 5 minutes when we put a batch of 1K file to MS FTP server.  Moreover, the FTP client is running on Windows XP with Windows Firewall on.  The MS FTP program is added to the Windows Firewall Exception list.

Please let me know the reason behind 5 minutes waiting and how to shorthen it.  Thanks.

    Regards,

    Wilson
