Windows Update not working (Windows 2003 Server)

Dear Sir/Madam.

We have encountered a problem when running the Windows Update on our Windows 2003 server SP2 (64bit), and have followed the intruction provide by the link below: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958053#survey . However, the worse still, when run the Windows Update, the error as below:

Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continued:

- Register or reintall the files for me now

- Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem.

We have checked the Windows Services and found the Automatic Updates cannot start, the error as below:

- Could not start the Automatic Update service on Local Computer

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

It is really frustrated by the issue, your help is highly appreciated. Thank You

Dear Customer,

According to this instruction, Please refer to the following article, here are more information about the error 1053:

FIX: You receive an "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" error message when you stop or pause a managed Windows service:

Dear Tom,

Thank you for your reply and advice. My question is there have three .NET Framwork versions (2.0 SP2 , 3.0 SP2 and 3.5 SP1) installed on the server, also the exchange 2007 application is running on the server, does any impact on my server? i have to ensure before installing the .NET Framework 1.1.
