procedure need to re-install Server 2003 SBS Version. RRS feed

  • 問題

  • Following case is a Server 2003 SBS with a total of 15 CALS installed.

After more than two years of running, we need to replace the two hard disks and power supply for the server for hardware depreciation.

I want to know what procedures I need to follow,  so that re-activiation of server 2003 and CALs re-installation is simpliest.

(Supposing that what program/data inside the server does not need to be retained).

Thanks to those who have read this message, and any response is also much appreciating.

  • The backup is depends on what function you was using in SBS server.

For instance, you are using ISA and you should backup all the rules. so as the users accounts and emails. You will need to reconfig all users if you want to just do a reinstall because of the difference of SID, so it may not that feasible.

  • Dear Tom,

Your comments are very helpful in existing normal running SBS Server 2003, that I have marked down for my future reference.

For the moment, our SBS Server 2003 has much things clutter up that cause sluggish network traffic/bootup time/shutdown time, that we need to have a new/clean/fresh installation in the same server. I am afraid that clutter things registry parameter may also be backup and restored back later.

My question is quite simply may be. Does it means that I can re-install sbs server2003 in the same server, activate through internet/telephone, and type in the original CALs license number, and then the installation work flow is finsihed.

My most important point is that, does I need to copy out any important files first, or deactivate/transfer/release the original license first. (for example, for symantec antivirus, I need to copy out the license folder, and then place it back into the new insallation.)
